Catapult Last Night!

What a great show!  Thank you to all the bands and most importantly all the people who came down to see them!

The Barents Sea kicked the show off with a blistering set, they are on tour just now for the release of their new EP “O’Brother of Mine”.  I couldn’t get my hands on a copy, that’s how fast it sold! They might post me one though ;)

Randolph’s Leap played a very dynamic intellectual set, they are a great band to listen to, then you listen even closer, you hear the lyrics and they blow you away.

The beautiful Iona Bain and her just as beautiful band, The Art Deco played a really soulful set, they looked like they were enjoying it as much as the crowd and the staff.

The evening was rounded off with Bad Bad Men, who despite the name are a lovely bunch of guys and a girl.  A fantstic set and I’m really lookinmg forward to their show at King Tuts!

Groove Armada & Twin Atlantic

Seen the amazzing Groove Armada last night at the O2 ABC Glasgow, what a great show.  The new album is a massive step forward, the old skool fans might not get it but they should have notied by now that THE 90’s ARE OVER! (even though sometimes I wish they werent).

Twin Atlantic are playing a secret show at Bar Bloc today at 6pm! Should be magic!

Save 6Music from the chop

Please please please take 2 mins to complain to the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/homepage/

If 6Music gets axed the majors have won! It will spell the end of independent music!

BBC director general Mark Thompson will reportedly announce the closure of 6 Music and the Asian Network next month, as part of wide-ranging cuts at the Corporation.

There has long been talk that 6 Music, which has an annual budget of £6m, is set to close as part of spending cuts: a report by the BBC trust earlier this month said that the station needs to become more cost effective by growing its reach without increasing costs.

The BBC is not commenting on the rumours although the Corporation’s own news services are reporting the speculation.

Other cuts at the BBC, according to The Times, will include shutting many of the Corporation’s websites and spending less on imported American programmes.

A BBC spokeswoman says, “Work on the BBC’s Strategy Review is ongoing and we are not commenting on today’s story.”

The Show I’m Repping Tomorrow…

I’m repping a show at Maggie Mays in Glasgow, for my friend Jlo of Get Loose Promotions.  I’ve never heard the bands before so I’m looking forward to checking them out! They are The Crossover, Fool On, General & Maggie Killed Me, if anyone has heard anything of these guys let me know.

Doors are 8pm and it’s £5 entry!

If the bands all get there on time for load in, it will make my Friday night a very good one!

Paul McCartney To Play Hampden Park!!

Paul McCartney is coming to Glasgow in the summer.

Sir Paul skipped Scotland last year when he played seven arena shows across Europe culminating in his first ever show at London’s O2 Arena – his first UK dates since 2004.

But now Macca has revealed that he’s making up for the omission by playing Hampden Park on July 1. Ticket prices have yet to be confirmed.

Only the biggest venues can hold the former Beatle, who pretty much guarantees sell-outs wherever he plays. Last summer he made musical history by inaugurating New York’s Citi Field over three nights, witnessed by 120,000 people. The concert, Good Evening New York City, is now out on DVD.

McCartney has a special connection with Glasgow. His single, Coming Up, released in 1980, featured a B-side live version recorded with Wings in Glasgow. It was the only Paul McCartney solo single to top the US charts, largely thanks to the B-side which was preferred by American radio to the more highly-synthesised A-side.

Cheers to Raymond Meade from the great band Boston Manor for bringing this to my attention!

Mayer Hawthorne And The County - Free Download!

The King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Facebook page said:-

Seen the T line up? well…. Mayer Hawthorne and the County are also playing Tuts on the 26th of May. To celebrate getting on the T line up the kind Mayer has given us a song to give away. Details of the free download on the page.

Mayer Hawthorne is one of my favorite musicians to come out of America recently, he sounds like modern day Detroit Motown.  Love it! Well worth a free download!
